Salary Ranges in Job Postings — New Requirements

From 2027, all job postings must include a salary range or starting salary. Asking candidates about salary history will also be prohibited. Here's how to prepare your recruitment process.

New Pay Transparency Requirements in Recruitment

From 1 January 2027, all employers in Sweden must inform job applicants about the salary range or starting salary for the advertised position. The information must be provided either in the job posting or at the latest before the job interview.

Prohibition of Salary History Questions

It will be prohibited to ask candidates about their current or previous salary. The purpose is to break the pattern where pay gaps follow from employer to employer. Employers must update their interview templates, recruitment forms, and procedures to ensure that no such questions are asked.

How Do You Prepare?

Start by establishing salary ranges for all positions based on your job evaluation. Update job posting templates to include salary ranges. Train hiring managers and HR on the new rules. Review agreements with recruitment agencies to ensure they comply with the new requirements.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Employers who do not comply with the new rules risk penalty orders and may be subject to supervision by DO. In addition, candidates who believe they have been affected may be entitled to damages if they can show they were denied pay transparency in violation of the law.
